Although Dagenham was a large and scattered parish there was apparently no Anglican place of worship, other than the parish church of St Peter & St Paul, until the end of the nineteenth century. The parish reached as far as Marks Gate. WebIt is now part of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, created in 1965. The only surviving relics of the one-time Medieval village are the timber-framed Cross Keys Inn, dating to 1500 or earlier, and the chancel and north chapel of the parish church.
